Korea Sports Council President Resigns

The president of the Korea Sports Council (KSC) has announced he'll resign after a conflict with the government.

KSC President Kim Jung-kil recently clashed with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which had refused to approve the appointment of the sports governing body's secretary-general.

Kim also said he'd resign from posts as chairman of the Korean Olympic Committee, the 2014 Incheon Asian Games Organizing Committee and the Korea Taekwondo Association.

In a news conference Monday, Kim said his uneasy relations with the government would hamper preparations for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

He suggested he would resign at a meeting of the KSC’s board of directors last week.

Kim’s resignation will likely disrupt the nation's preparations for the Olympics with the opening ceremonies just 100 days away.
