Astronaut Yi Recuperating in Moscow

Korea's first astronaut Yi So-yeon has received a medical checkup and is recuperating at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center Hospital in Moscow.

She returned to earth Saturday afternoon after concluding a 12-day mission in space.

Yi arrived in Moscow at 1:50 a.m. Sunday along with American astronaut Peggy Whitson and Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko.

She experienced shock when she landed in Orsk, Kazakhstan, Saturday on the Soyuz spacecraft. But Yi is said to be healthy overall.

She is scheduled to return to Korea around April 28.

An expert said Yi’s successful mission is expected to contribute to the development of Korea’s space program.
