Astronaut Yi Speaks to Korean Youth

The nation’s first astronaut has spoken with South Korean youths in a live video link from the International Space Station.

Astronaut Yi Soyeon spoke with 15 elementary, middle and high school students at a high school in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province. The conversation took place Sunday around 7:50 p.m., Korean time.

For around ten minutes, the students asked Yi about her daily routines in space and the experiments she was conducting.

Yi said she was thrilled to speak Korean after speaking only English and Russian for several days. She told the group to dream of traveling to space and to study hard for that dream.

Yi will hold a similar contact with another group of students around Friday.

Earlier on Thursday, Yi entered the International Space Station, which orbits the Earth at an altitude of 350 kilometers.

She'll return to Earth on Saturday after completing 18 experiments.
