Astronaut to Reach Space Station Thursday Night

The nation’s first astronaut Yi Soyeon will soon begin her assigned experiments at the International Space Station (ISS).

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said Thursday the Soyuz spacecraft carrying the astronaut will reach the I-S-S at 10 p.m., Seoul time. The docking process will take about three hours, allowing Yi and the Russian crew to enter the station about 50 minutes past midnight Thursday night.

The ministry said that once docking is completed, Yi and the two Russian cosmonauts will cross over to the space station, where they'll take part in a brief welcoming ceremony.

The welcoming ceremony will be followed by ten-minute interviews with Russian scientists and South Korean officials at Russia’s Mission Control Center in Moscow. The ceremony and interviews will be televised live.
