Police Security Up on Torch Relay

Police have strengthened intelligence efforts against attempts to sabotage the Olympic torch relay.

The National Police Agency has stepped up security for the torch's scheduled tour through Seoul on the way to Pyongyang April 27th.

Police will gather intelligence on potential protests and moves of Korean activist groups that may protest Beijing's crackdown on Tibet and the Falun Gong situation.

They also requested Korean diplomats stationed abroad to report on the government stance and public opinion in their host countries on calls to boycott the Beijing Summer Olympics. Diplomats have also been asked to report on police security plans for torch relays abroad.

The Olympic torch is set to pass through 19 countries and will arrive in Seoul early on April 27th. It is scheduled to leave for Pyongyang that night.
