A national technology standards organization has cleared laptop computers and batteries produced by top Korean electronics producers, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics.

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) said the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute tested models linked to recent explosions. However, it found no defects that would cause an explosion.

Nonetheless, the agency warned consumers not to misuse electronic gadgets or to leave their laptop computers on while in a bag.

The agency will also conduct safety tests on mobile handsets, navigation systems, portable multimedia players and other electronic devices.
