An international arbitration body says it will recognize only the men's handball rematch in the Asian qualifiers for the Beijing Olympics.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport made the announcement on its Web site Friday, saying the result of the men's rematch held this January in Tokyo would stand. But it also said it would uphold the result of the original women's qualifier held last August in Kazakhstan.
As a result, the Korean men's handball team will play in the Olympics this summer. But the Korean women's team will have to fight for a berth in qualifiers hosted by the International Handball Federation (IHF) that begin next Friday.
At a board meeting last December, the world handball governing body had nullified the results of the original Asian preliminaries after complaints of referee bias. In rematches ordered by the IHF, both Korean men's and women's teams came out on top.
