South and North Korean soccer teams will play a qualifier for the 2010 World Cup in Shanghai, China later this month.
The third-round regional qualifier will be held on March 26th at the 35-thousand-seat Hongkou Soccer Stadium. The natural grass stadium is located next to Hongkou Park, where Korean independence fighter Yoon Bong-gil threw a bomb at a ceremony celebrating the Japanese Emperor's birthday in 1932.
The venue was chosen by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) after the two Koreas failed to agree on arrangements for a match that was to be held March 26th in Pyongyang.
FIFA stepped in to mediate in the dispute by the Seoul-based Korea Football Association. The dispute had centered on whether the South could display its national flag and play its national anthem at the match, both of which the North refused to allow.
