The Court of Arbitration for Sport will hold a hearing March 19th to resolve a dispute over the Asian handball qualifiers for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The dispute centers on a decision by the International Handball Federation (IHF) to order replays of regional qualifiers held last September after complaints of referee bias. In the original matches, Kuwait won the men's division and Kazakhstan won in the women's.
However, the Asian Handball Federation, which is chaired by Kuwait, has challenged the IHF decision, saying the original matches were officiated fairly. It refused to accept the results of rematches played in January.
In the rematches, South Korean men and women’s teams came out on top and qualified for the Olympics.
The Korean Handball Federation said the court is not likely to overturn the IHF decision, which was also supported by the International Olympic Committee.
