An inter-Korean World Cup soccer qualifier slated for next month in Pyongyang may take place in China.
South Korean broadcaster SBS, which holds exclusive rights to televise the match, said Friday that North Korea wants the contest moved from Pyongyang to Shenyang, China.
The South's Korea Football Association (KFA) is waiting for a response from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) on a request to help mediate with North Korea on arrangements for the regional qualifier.
A KFA official said nothing has been set for the match slated for March 26th. He added that a North Korean official with contacts at SBS is said to have raised the possibility of holding the match in China.
Talks between the two Koreas have collapsed over arrangements for the World Cup qualifier. One of the key issues is the North's reluctance to allow the South to display its flag and play its national anthem at the match.
