Korea Draws, But Wins E.Asia Title

The national soccer team has won the East Asian Football Federation Championship despite playing Japan to a 1-1 draw Saturday.

In Chongqing, China, both teams finished the tournament with a record of one win and two ties, but Korea won the title because it had five goals overall compared to Japan's three.

The Taegeuk Warriors took the lead in the 14th minute when midfielder Yeom Ki-hun blasted a volley into the net. Japan, however, tied when Koji Yamase blasted a shot just outside of the penalty box in the 66th minute.

The two teams also finished tied in goal difference and points.

Host China beat North Korea for third place, 3-1.
