Koreas Tied at East Asian Football Event

Soccer teams from the two Koreas tied one-to-one in a match held Wednesday at the East Asian Football Federation Championship in China.

The South’s Yeom Ki-hun scored the first goal in the 20th minute of the match held at the Olympic Stadium in the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing. However, the North scored the equalizer in the 72nd minute when forward Jong Tae-se kicked the ball past the charging South Korean goalie.

South Korea, which now has one win and one draw, will face Japan on Saturday. A victory over Japan will make it the winner of the East Asian football event.

North Korea has two draws in the tournament thus far.

Meanwhile, host China ranks at the bottom after defeats by Japan and South Korea.
