The Red Devils fan club said Wednesday they won't go to Pyongyang to cheer on the national soccer team if they can't do it their usual way, using the South Korean national flag and singing the national anthem.
The fan club said in a posting on the Red Devils Web site that they believe in political neutrality, adding it would not be desirable for them to do anything that could trigger a political controversy.
Last week, North Korea proposed that cheer squads of the two countries hoist a Korean Peninsula flag at the stadium in Pyongyang and sing Korea's traditional folk song, Arirang, instead of their national anthems.
Meanwhile, the Choson Shinbo, a pro-Pyongyang newspaper published in Japan, reported Wednesday that a group of ethnic Koreans in Japan will visit North Korea for eight days from March 22. Observers believe this indicates Pyongyang may allow them to cheer for the North Korean soccer team.
