A Japanese daily says Japan is working with Korea and China on what it hopes will be a new standard in video communication technology.
According to the Yomiuri Shimbun, Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication plans a joint test with the two neighbors next month. If successful, the technology will be presented to the International Telecommunication Union.
The test will be conducted to find if the new fiber optic cable-based technology can be used to transmit Chinese Internet broadcasts in Korea and Japan. It will also focus on whether the technology can carry high-quality images for video conferences among the three countries.
Communication providers from the three countries will participate in the test. The Japanese participants are KDDI Corporation, NTT, NEC and Hitachi.
Yomiuri said the tripartite standardization test is aimed at helping the three countries sharpen their technological competitiveness at the global level.
