University Finds Reason for Male Baldness

A research team at Kyungpook National University in Daegu says it's discovered the reason why men go bald.

The team led by Professor Kim Jung-chul of the school's hair transplant center announced the results in an article published in the February issue of the Journal of Investigative Dermatology.

They claim that suppressing the protein DKK-One, induced by the male hormone DHT, is what causes men to lose their hair.

They say that balding occurs more often toward the forehead than in the back because more of the protein is produced in hair closer to the front.

The team says it's developed a substance that controls DKK-One and is testing its effects as a treatment.
