A team of Korean scientists has developed a new gene therapy for cancer which they say kills
cells that are cancerous without affecting those that are normal.

The National Cancer Center team led by Dr. Kim In-hu injected a drug made from ribozymes into a mouse with colon cancer. It found that the ribozymes turned into curative genes in the body and killed cancerous cells without affecting healthy ones.

The team said their results confirmed the possibility of using ribozymes in cancer treatments.

The findings were published in three international academic journals including Clinical Cancer Research.
