Champion boxer Choi Yo-sam has been pronounced dead, ten days after falling into a coma following a title match.

The Asan Medical Center declared the 33-year-old boxer legally dead a little past midnight Wednesday night, hours after he was declared brain dead.

The boxer's organs were donated to six patients in accordance with his wishes.

A three-day memorial service beginning Thursday will be organized by the Korea Boxing Commission.

The Korean boxer was injured while successfully defending his intercontinental flyweight title in a World Boxing Council match held December 25th.

He collapsed shortly after the bout, during which he had taken a series of left and right hooks from Heri Amal of Indonesia. Choi fell into a coma soon after and underwent brain surgery but never regained consciousness.
