The government says the nation's domestically produced high speed train has not recorded a single accident during its trial run of 200-thousand kilometers that began in 2002.
Moreover, it attained a domestic record speed of 352-point-four kilometers per hour in December 2004.
The Korea Railroad Research Institute designed and developed the manufacturing technology of the high-speed train as well as the technology to assess its performance. It also produced a a two-and-a-half megawatt large-capacity propulsion control switch using the world's first high-power semiconductor device called the Integrated Gate Commutated Thyristor (IGCT).
Following the successful trial run, Korea Railroad will bid for Turkey's high-speed train purchase project next year and also propose the Korean model as the staple for Brazil's train system.
The Construction and Transportation Ministry has been working on a faster, 400-kilometer-per-hour train since July. It is expected to release the results soon.
