Gov't Concludes 5-Year Plan on Climate Change

The government has finalized a new five-year plan to cope with climate change.

Under the plan, Korea will enact a law by 2009 that would establish a national system to address climate change.

It has also decided to set short-term goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to draw up a mid- to long-term goal sometime next year.

The new plan also calls for increased use of alternative energy sources, enhanced fuel efficiency of vehicles and home appliances, and a pilot test of carbon trading.
