LG Electronics has developed a next-generation mobile broadcasting technology in cooperation with Sweden’s Ericsson Network.

The Korean firm said it had succeeded in a test of the multimedia broadcast multicast service at the Ericsson Institute on Friday.

The technology allows users to enjoy mobile broadcasts over third-generation cellular networks based on the wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) system.

LG Electronics said the technology doesn’t require additional facilities to provide both telecommunication and broadcast services. It said all that's needed is an upgrade of the existing WCDMA network.
