The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute plans to develop domestically a mid-sized space telescope with a diameter of one meter.

The institute said Friday it will build the telescope based on its technology for making a sixty-centimeter reflecting telescope, which the agency developed in 2005.

According to the institute, Doctor Oh Jun-ho, professor of mechanical engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology will participate in the project. Oh is known as the developer of the "Hubo" humanoid robot.

An official at the institute said the project will take advantage of the Hubo technology to develop a world-class mid-size telescope.
