Arirang 2 Photos Available in Korea

High-resolution images taken by the multipurpose Arirang-Two satellite are now available on the domestic market.

The Science and Technology Ministry said Thursday the public can also commission the satellite to take new images, although it may take awhile for processing.

The Korea Aerospace Research Institute will offer the images at cost for use by non-profit or public academic organizations.

Korea Aerospace Industries will sell them at commercial prices for any other purpose.

Since its launch in July last year, the Arirang-Two circles the earth 14 times a day at a 685-kilometer altitude. It can capture black-and-white images of objects as small as one meter across and color images of objects four meters across.

The French company Spot Image has sold overseas photos taken by the satellite since June.
