Korea has finished fourth among 36 nations in the International Junior Science Olympiad held in Taipei, taking home two gold and four silver medals.

First place in the weeklong competition that ended Monday went to host country Taiwan with six golds. Singapore and Russia tied at second with four golds and two silvers.

The junior science contest, which was launched in 2004 in Indonesia, is the only competition of its kind in the world. Students answer multiple choice and free response questions, and also conduct lab experiments.
