McCarthy Drops Out, Houllier Likely the Next Coach

One of two candidates for coach of the nation's soccer team has dropped out of the race.

English Premier League manager Mick McCarthy has decided to remain with his team, making Gerard Houllier the sole candidate for the post.

McCarthy, manager of the championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers, announced his desicion on the team Web site after talks with club owner Steve Morgan.

The Korea Football Association (KFA) will likely hold final talks with former Liverpool boss Houllier and announce his appointment as early as Friday.

Although the BBC's online edition reported that Houllier was not interested in the Korean position, KFA says terms have been generally agreed on and the appointment faces no major difficulties.
