A group of South Korean researchers say they've developed a super-high speed home network system using plastic optical fibers.

The group led by Professor Hwang Seung-sang of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology said the new network would enable data transmission at two-and-a-half gigahertz.

Hwang’s team said the fiber optic line was 20 times faster than existing copper lines, adding that it was more flexible and thus appropriate for home installation.
