Kim Wins Free Skating at Cup of Russia

Figure skating star Kim Yu-na has won the gold medal in the women's free skating final at the Cup of Russia, the fifth of six meets on the International Skating Union's Grand Prix circuit.

The win Saturday guarantees her a berth in the Grand Prix finals. She earned 133.70 points in the women’s single free skating program, and finished with a new personal best of 197.20 points in both the short program and free skating event.

Kim has won two Grand Prix competitions this season and advanced to the Grand Prix finals for the second straight year for the first time since her debut at the world senior championships last year.

She will face archrival Mao Asada of Japan in the Grand Prix finals. Kim beat Asada in last year's competition for the gold.
