KFA Slaps Heavy Penalties on Players in Scandal

The Korea Football Association (KFA) has disclipined four senior soccer players involved in a midnight drinking spree ahead of an important Asian Cup match in July.

The association on Friday held a meeting to discuss their punishment and decided to suspend from the national team goalie Lee Woon-jae, forward Woo Sung-yong, defender Kim Sang-sik and striker Lee Dong-gook. The suspension will remain in effect for one year.

Lee Woon-jae has also been suspended for three years from KFA-sponsored matches and ordered to perform 80 hours of community service. The other three each received two years and 40 hours of service.
