Korea Develops Fastest Wireless Transmitter

Korean researchers say they've developed the world's fastest wireless system.

The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) says the new device can transmit data wirelessly at three-point-six gigabits per second (Gbps) over a mobile network.

That means a person can receive on their mobile phone or computer four-point-seven gigabytes of data - one DVD's worth - in ten-and-a-half seconds and a five-megabyte MP3 song in one-hundredth of a second.

ETRI researchers say the device transmits data three times faster than previously existing technologies and is a year ahead of research in the U.S. and Japan.
