Russian, Chinese Sweep Golds at Daegu Athletics Meeting

Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva took the gold in the Women’s pole vault for the second straight year at the annual Daegu Athletics Meeting.

The world record holder and Olympic champion cleared the four-point-eight meter mark on Thursday, breaking her previous record of four-point-seven meters that she set at last year's Daegu competition.

In the men’s sprint hurdles, another world record holder and Olympic champion, Liu Xiang of China, came in first with a record of 12-point-88 seconds. Liu had also won the event last year in Daegu.

Russia’s Tatyana Lebedeva won the women’s long jump after setting a record of six-point-nine meters.

Meanwhile, 2005 World Championships silver medalist Wallace Spearmon of the United States won the men’s 100-meter dash with a time of ten-point-one-one seconds, while also winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 19-point-eight-eight seconds. Fellow American Lauryn Williams won the women’s 100-meter dash after clocking in at eleven-point-three-three seconds.
