Nuke Safety School to Train Global Experts

The government plans to develop a school run by the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety into an international education center to train global experts in the nuclear safety field.

Science and Technology Minister Kim Woo-sik announced the plan during a keynote speech at the International Atomic Energy Agency's 51st General Assembly held Tuesday in Vienna.

He also proposed that Korea could share its fusion technology with IAEA member states to help nuclear power enhance their quality of life.

Kim also expressed hope that the U.N. nuclear agency would assist with the development of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) and in the setting of related technical and safety standards.
