The nation’s Mugunghwa satellite will expand its service coverage beyond the Korean Peninsula into Southeast Asian nations after the coordination of potential satellite frequency interference with an Indonesian satellite.

The Information and Communication Ministry said Tuesday that South Korea and Indonesia recently held a meeting in Seoul to address potential satellite interference between Korea’s Mugunghwa 3 and an Indonesian satellite, which will be launched into orbit in 2009.

The ministry said that in the meeting, Indonesia agreed to limit the service coverage of its satellite to its territory, allowing the Mugunghwa 3 and future satellites to expand their coverage area into Indonesia.
