Civic groups in Busan have launched a campaign to host the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in the southern port city.

An association of some 150 civic groups on Thursday announced that they will launch various efforts to host the international sports event including a signature campaign.

The association started the campaign to collect signatures of one million people to raise citizens’ awareness of the drive.

Busan hosted the 2002 Asian Games and 2006 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.
