Team Develops Way to Diagnose Gastric Cancer

A domestic research team says it has developed a way to diagnose gastric cancer by measuring the quantity of a specific protein in a patient's blood.

A team led by Lee Hee-koo at the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology said Monday that a large quantity of the marker protein “M-A-C-Two-B-P” was found in the blood of stomach cancer patients.

The team said that measuring the quantity of the protein in a patient's blood can help doctors better diagnose gastric cancer.

The team will begin necessary steps Tuesday to commercialize the technology.
