National soccer team coach Pim Verbeek, who offered to resign following the team's lackluster Asian Cup performance, has cited his conflict with the domestic Korea League as a reason for resigning.
In an interview with Dutch football magazine Thursday, Verbeek said it wasn't easy preparing for an A-match with a limited time to work with the players. He said he stepped down because he couldn't take the K-League's priority over club matches anymore.
He said that during the coaching tenure of Guus Hiddink, everyone cooperated to help the national team but observed that things are different now. He said he suffered from severe fatigue after the Korean Olympic team failed to join the Qatar friendly early this year, blaming it on what he said was the K-League's lack of cooperation.
