National Soccer Coach Affirms His Resignation

National soccer team coach Pim Verbeek says he's made up his mind about resigning.

Returning from Indonesia with his team after they took third in the Asian Cup finals, Verbeek told reporters that he would quit both the national team and the Olympic team. He added that, after taking a break, he would take on a new challenge.

Verbeek went on to say that although he would step down, assistant coaches Hong Myong-bo and Afshin Ghotbi would remain to lead the national team to the Olympic qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Korea Football Association official Lee Young-moo said he would meet with Verbeek and call a meeting of the association's technical committee as soon as possible to discuss next steps.
