The Gangwon Provincial Council and an association promoting Pyeonchang's Olympic bid have each decided to make another run for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
The council on Wednesday put forth a resolution supporting a bid for the 2018 games. Twenty-nine of 37 attendant council members voted for the resolution. The association also decided overwhelmingly to support bringing the games to Pyeonchang.
An association of some 40 civic groups in the province expressed regret over the decisions, however, saying that they were made without sufficient discussion and research.
Pyeongchang lost its bid to host the 2010 games to Vancouver, Canada, and the 2014 event to Sochi, Russia.
