Nat’l Soccer Team, Saudi Arabia Draw in Asian Cup Opener

The national soccer team has tied with Saudi Arabia one-to-one in its opening Asian Cup match in Jakarta, Indonesia.

With the draw, the South Korean team continues an 18-year streak in which it has not been able to defeat Saudi Arabia.

In the Group D match, South Korean forward Choi Sung-kuk scored with a powerful header in the 21st minute of the second half, but Saudi Arabia tied the score ten minutes later off a penalty kick.

In the other Group D match, Indonesia beat Bahrain to take the lead in the group. Bahrain will face South Korea on Sunday.

In Group C, Iran scored an upset over Uzbekistan, winning two-to-one and is now ranked second in its group behind China.
