IOC May Change Olympic Host Selection Process

The head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has expressed interest in changing the procedures to decide on host cities for the international games.

IOC President Jacques Rogge made the comment in Guatemala after the IOC's 119th general meeting, saying there are merits but also problems with the current system, and therefore changes should be made.

Under the current system, technical reports by committee members who have visited the candidate cities are not reflected in the final vote.

The IOC changed its decision-making procedures over to the current system, after a lobbying scandal erupted over 1999’s Salt Lake City Games. In the past, all committee members had visited the candidate cities and then cast their ballots.
