Gyeonggi Province said Thursday that it will seek to list the ecological preserve in the demilitarized zone and a Stone Age site in the province as World Natural Heritage sites.

The plan is part of Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo’s “30 major tasks” for the province’s cultural development plan.

The plan also includes the creation of a 200 billion won fund for cultural contents by 2010 and the organizing of an international festival for experimental arts in honor of the late Korean video artiest Nam June Paik.

Under the plan, the province and its governor aim to bolster Gyeonggi's culture industry by modernizing traditional culture, promoting homegrown creativity and increasing the consumption of cultural products, among others.
