The New York Times said in an editorial a day before for the final vote on the host of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games that South Korea’s Pyeongchang should win the bid.

The daily cited South Korea’s successful hosting of two past major international sporting events, namely the World Cup and the Olympics, as its reasons.

It also said there are signs of strong support from the residents in Pyeongchang, with only five percent opposing the hosting of the games, compared to Salzburg’s 45 percent and Sochi’s 14 percent.

The article also emphasized that South Korea has the space and the capital to accommodate up-to-date Olympic facilities.
