Vote for 2014 Winter Games Expected Thursday

The International Olympic Committee will decide on the host for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games Thursday, after days of fierce competition between the three bidding cities.

IOC members will cast their votes during the general meeting in Guatemala, choosing one of the three competing cities: Korea’s Pyeongchang, Russia’s Sochi and Austria’s Salzburg.

Pyeongchang’s bid committee is gearing up for its final presentation after losing its first bid for the 2010 Winter Games in 2003.

Ninety-seven IOC members will cast their electronic votes Thursday morning after sitting through presentations from the three cities. In order to win the bid, one of the cities must win at least 49 votes in the first round or win the majority in the runoff.
