Chung to Oversee Olympic Soccer in Beijing, London

FIFA Vice President Chung Mong-joon has been appointed the chair of the FIFA Organizing Committee for the Olympic Football Tournaments.

The Korea Football Association said that the FIFA Executive Committee met Wednesday in Zurich, Switzerland and voted unanimously to support Chung's bid to succeed outgoing chair Issa Hayatu.

In his new capacity, Chung will oversee men’s and women’s soccer games during the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics.

It is his first time to chair one of FIFA’s standing committees since he began serving as vice president in 1994.
