Starting with the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, there will be two bronze medals up for grabs for each Taekwondo weight class.

The International Olympic Committee said Thursday that it will assign two bronze medals for each weight class, accepting the World Taekwondo Federation’s request to protect players by not holding a third-place match.

The decision will double the total number of Taekwondo bronze medals to 16.

Meanwhile, it was announced that a total of 128 players will vie for Taekwondo medals in the Beijing Olympics, two men and two women from each country.
