Climber Um Returns Home

A South Korean champion climber has returned home after climbing Lhotse Shar, one of the peaks on the world's fourth highest mountain, Lhotse.

Um Hong-gil and two other members of his team, Byung Sung-ho and Mo Sang-hyun, arrived Thursday at Incheon International Airport, receiving a warm welcome from about 200 people.

The three looked healthy despite their frostbitten hands and feet.

Um reached the 84-hundred meter summit on May 31st, 15 hours after leaving base camp at the 82-hundred-meter level. His achievement comes after three previous unsuccessful attempts.

Um is the first South Korean to scale all 16 Himalayan peaks over eight-thousand meters high.
