The Korean embassy in France said Saturday that the Head of the Korean 2014 Winter Olympics bid of Pyeongchang, promoted the Korean town’s bid in a series of interviews with the French news media.
In an interview with AFP on Friday, Han Seung-soo, chairman of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Bid Committee, admitted being like a girl receiving a marriage proposal when the city received the highest marks in the publication of the IOC Evaluation Commission report earlier this week.
However, Han remained cautious, saying that there were many other factors involved in the IOC members' decision, and that it does not mean Pyeongchang has all the IOC members' votes.
He also denied that Korea winning so many recent bids to host major sporting events such as the 2014 Asian Games and the world athletics championships would provoke a reaction against Pyeongchang's bid.
Citing the example of the 2002 World Cup, he said the fact that different bodies believe Korea is able to host events is a compliment in that it can always produce positive results.
He said North Korea recently test-fired missiles in a political attempt to affect the six-party nuclear talks, and that the firings will not affect IOC members voting.
