A global directory of noteworthy figures has created an award in honor of a South Korean scientist.

The Korea Electric Power Corporation said Tuesday that the American Biographical Institute announced a plan to launch an award named after the company's chief researcher Sung Tae-hyun.

KEPCO said that the leading world authority on superconductivity achieved a breakthrough in the field by developing a new superconducting flywheel system for energy storage based on a horizontal axis.

The institute plans to award the Sung Tae-hyun prize to scientists who make outstanding achievements in semiconductor research.
