Swimmer Park Advances to 200M Semifinals

Teenage swimming phenom Park Tae-hwan has advanced to the semifinals in the men’s 200-meter freestyle at the World Swimming Championships in Melbourne, Australia.

Park took third place in a preliminary race for the men’s 200-meter event in 1:47.5, just 22-hundredths of a second behind Dutch swimmer Pieter van den Hoogenband.

The 17-year-old is expected to win another medal in the prestigious annual contest.

Semifinals will be held Monday evening and finals Tuesday afternoon.

On Sunday, Park won a gold medal in the men’s 400-meter freestyle final, giving Korea its first-ever world swimming title.
