A champion mountain climber will seek to climb Lhotse Shar, the world's seventh-highest peak.

Climber Um Hong-gil on March fifth will lead a 17-member team on his fourth attempt to scale the 84-hundred meter summit.

Um is planning to set up base camp at 82-hundred meters and make three attempts to climb the peak over a period of 20 days.

In 2001, the champion climber had to turn back at 76-hundred meters due to bad weather. On his second try in 2003, he aborted an attempt at 82-hundred-50 meters after losing two team members to an avalanche. Last May, he had to turn back at 81-hundred meters again due to avalanche concerns.

Um is the first South Korean to scale all 14 Himalayan peaks over eight-thousand meters high.
