Korea has topped the medal standings in an international sports tournament for the first time.
The country won ten gold, eleven silver and nine bronze medals in the Winter World University Games in Turin, Italy.
The top finish is the first for Korea at an international sports tournament including the Olympics, the Asian Games and the Universiad.
Host Italy finished third.
Korean short track skaters grabbed eight of the ten golds in the event. Speedskater Sung Si-baek won five golds in four individual events and in the 5,000-meter relay.
Kim Hye-gyeong took two golds in the women's 500 and 1,500 meters.
Nearly 2,000 athletes from 52 countries competed in the eleven-day tournament that ended Sunday.
Harbin, China will host the 2009 games.
