The government has decided to acquire advanced equipment to detect nuclear testing in the region amid concerns that North Korea could carry out a second nuclear test.
The Science and Technology Ministry said Thursday that it planned to buy a noble gas analyzer from Germany’s Federal Office for Radiation Protection in April and a xenon gas detector from Sweden in December.
The ministry said that the equipment will enhance the nation’s ability to detect nuclear tests.
The two machines will be placed along the demilitarized zone between the South and North to collect samples and test for noble gases in the atmosphere that indicate nuclear activity.
